
A warm, savory Nepali chaat made with sprouted and lightly steamed Sano Kerau (Nepali peas), bursting with spices and freshness.
Ingredients (Serves 2)
- 1 cup Sano Kerau sprouts (Nepali peas), sprouted and lightly steamed for 5 minutes
- 1 tbsp oil (mustard oil or any preferred cooking oil)
- ½ onion, finely chopped
- 1–2 green chilies, chopped (adjust to taste)
- 1–2 small tomatoes, chopped
- 2–3 cloves garlic, crushed or finely minced
- Salt, to taste
- A handful of fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Steam the sprouted Sano Kerau for about 5 minutes until just tender. Set aside.
- In a pan, heat oil and sauté the chopped onions until soft and lightly golden.
- Add green chilies and crushed garlic, and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Stir in the chopped tomatoes and cook until they soften slightly but still hold shape.
- Add salt to taste.
- Turn off the heat and gently mix in the steamed Sano Kerau sprouts.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
Serving Suggestion:
Enjoy warm as a snack or light lunch. This chaat is delicious on its own or served with beaten rice (chiura) or as a topping on flatbreads.
